Brighten up these dreary days

I wouldn’t be a true Brit if I didn’t mention the weather and after three weeks of solid rain in the UK it just seems impossible to talk about anything else!  This time last year I was basking in the sizzling heat of Singapore and with so many of the team at SheerLuxe HQ jetting off to sunnier climes I’ve got the biggest urge to hop on a plane and escape it all.

Until that moment finally arrives (6 weeks on Monday!) and to brighten up these dreary days, I’ve been making my own wish list of key pieces for when the sun finally does decide to shine:

From J Brand
J Brand Neon Jeans – whatever colour you choose, a pair of neon jeans is an essential key piece if you want to look on trend over the coming months.

From Dune
Kat Maconie for Dune – we’re all a bit over excited at SL for the launch of this collaboration.  A good sandal seems hard to find this summer so I’m pretty excited about getting my hands on this pair.

From Iro
Iro Dylan Jacket – yes it comes with a pretty hefty price tag but I LOVE this brand!  And I love this jacket even more now I’ve just seen Gwyneth Paltrow – my secret girl crush – pictured wearing it with white jeans and flats. Simple but very effective.

From Ray Ban
Ray Ban Cat Eyes – this shape is definitely here to stay for another season.  I played it safe last year and opted for their classic wayfarers but this year I’m getting involved.

From Eugenia Kim

Eugenia Kim Trilby – As much as I love the sun my skin just doesn’t.  This summer I’m taking the sensible approach with a hat to keep the rays off and this is by far my favourite I’ve seen so far.

From Ribbon and Roses

Miss Pink Lady Scarf – another colour pop for the summer.  This would look great with a simple white tee and denim cut offs.

Happy shopping!

9-5

As Dolly Parton’s pelting out "working 9-5" downstairs (yes total closet Dolly fan… or not even closet really) I get endless emails from working girls… not the pretty woman, stand on a street corner in suspenders type, but asking me to suggest which Ribbon and Roses pieces would work for them and pass as office wear.

There is nothing more boring than a pair of Joseph black trousers teamed with a safe Thomas pink or TM Lewin for women shirt so here’s a quick guide which I hope will be acceptable for your office’s…and most importantly items which take you through to the well deserved glass of wine at the end of the day.
Silk ruffle dress
Navy patent ballet pumps
Blue linen Jacket
Blue lace blouse
Blue leaf silk skirt
Cream button back blouse

Please email marina@ribbonandroses.com for any help on sizing, delivery times etc
Some of the items above are in the sale so happy shopping!

Culinary offerings from a small island

I like food. A lot. So when I recently moved to Singapore it wasn't the sun or proximity to turquoise waters and white beaches that got me excited, it was all the different dishes, tastes and ingredients on offer. Eating is not only one of life's greatest pleasures, it's also Singapore's favourite pastime so no excuse for not getting stuck in.

Peranakan, Malay, Chinese, Eurasian, Vietnamese, Indian, Thai, Singaporean and Japanese cuisine all play a part in contributing to the melting pot of food cultures found here. Culinary delights aplenty, I've stumbled across some finger lickin' good local dishes which have taken poll position and deserve a special mention: creamy soupy laksa with prawns, famously found on the East Coast; popiah, crunchy vegetable bits rolled up in chewy rice skin (the Chinese version of a burrito); Peranakan Nonya rice dumplings wrapped tightly in banana leaves. And don't get me started on the dim sum.

Wedge wishes

Wedges are like marmite... you either love them or hate them?!

Mostly loved by the girls while loathed by the boys! Guys just cannot seem to get their head around them, often left bamboozled to why one would choose to wear something that (quote from a male friend) ‘looks like an orthopedic shoe’!

I personally am wedge obsessed.

They are an essential cog to my summer wardrobe, which happens to be all year round living in Singapore, I never ever tire of them! When the combo of maximum height & comfort is needed they are my ‘go to shoe’ and are always the answer and come to my rescue for most occasions. I find myself constantly on wedge watch hoping to find an addition to join the army of stacks I have in my cupboard!

Take a look at the latest creations that have caught my eye & are heading to the top of my wish list!

British Cupcakes!

I know in past blogs I have mentioned how time seems to pass me by, maybe it’s since motherhood started and I’m always on a catch up to grab any Zzzz’s as I can find! Archie is 1, a terrifying thought but we made it!

We hosted the all important first birthday with his friends. It’s a complete mind field baby parties unless you have been to lots, which I had obviously managed to avoid till now. What to give them, the prized contents of the Party bag… how many balloons etc.

I remember parties when I was little with mummy floating around in a pretty dress looking so calm and collected with Smartie Artie entertaining us all…. I wonder if he’s still around. (He must be about 100) I just wish I looked so together on Saturday, with 98% humidity it was all game over really on the hair front and basically give up from there onwards as cake and icing was smeared all over the new Ribbon and Roses tunic.

Archie loved it, not that he could tell if it was Monday, Easter or his 1st birthday and the first taste of cake was priceless.  As always Annabel Karmel came up trumps on the food front, though I wish Hats and Bells children's party caterers were in Singapore rather than London - could have saved a lot of stress! And I do hope the sugar high kids got to their lunchtime naps before the melt down started.
